John Hughes, director of Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), Pretty in Pink (1986), Home Alone (1990) and National Lampoon's Vacation (1982)- as well as a plethora of other films celebrating the beauty of youth and the humor and significance of teen angst- was honored tonight at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Hughes, a Chicagoan since age 12, died of a heart attack in August of 2009..
